After a disappointing recipe before, it’s time to go strong – in more ways than one – with another decadent cocktail. Obviously amaretto is going to be a key ingredient here but aside from that the Amaretto Alexander doesn’t really give anything away in the name alone. What you’ll find is that this is a rich and creamy cocktail that borders on being a dessert and really should be served to those who have a sweet tooth in particular. However if you want something guilt free you should probably click away now as it features a whole ounce of double cream per serving – if you’re calorie counting, that’s 103 before you even consider the other sugary liqueurs in the glass.
I know, I know, it’s heartbreaking! Look, if you’re living a balanced and healthy lifestyle you can absolutely squeeze a few of these into it, it’s all about moderation and balance. I, for one, am all about balance – after all, one glass in each hand is perfectly balanced.
All jokes aside, the Amaretto Alexander is surprisingly light in the mouthfeel given the heavy nature of the cream; you can sip it if you wish but it’ll happily go down quicker if that’s what you want too. The chocolate liqueur is just sweet enough to counteract the slight bitterness of the amaretto so you end up with an almost chocolate bar like drink that’ll satisfy the cravings of any chocoholic. I should know, I am one.
It’s strong in booze but tastes far from it so just be careful on how quickly you do go through these lest you fail to remember the deliciousness the morning after!
♦ 2 ounces amaretto
♦ 1 ½ white crème de cacao
♦ 1 ounce double cream
Shake all the ingredients together and then serve in a chilled cocktail glass.
