A vodka based variant of the Fuzzy Navel, the Hairy Navel is yet another version of the oh-so-well-known combination of vodka, peach schnapps and orange juice that we’ve all come to realise is a good percentage of modern drinks. This particular combination is served long and often with ice, although it really just depends on your preference – personally I dislike ice as it gradually waters down the flavour of the drink and if woe betide you if you forget to stir!
So, based on the contents alone it’s a given to assume that the Hairy Navel would be pleasant (which it is) and very drinkable (which, again, it is) – but is it memorable?
Honestly, no.
It’s inoffensive but doesn’t have the ‘wow’ factor you look for in a truly special cocktail, the bit of something extra that lingers in your mind long after the glass is emptied. It’s light, fruity and forgettable – frankly the best case scenario for it is to be used either as a punch when entertaining a large number of guests due to it’s simplicity and limited ingredient list, or as an easy-going drink to start with if you’re in for a heavy night of imbibing.
To summarise, if you’re offered it don’t turn it down, but don’t feel the need to go out of your way to make one.
