The Craneberry Punch is another one of our own creations using a liqueur that, previously, had primarily been used in our household as a sipping drink. Both cocktails and solitary enjoyment are perfectly good uses of Crane’s Cranberry and Blood Orange Liqueur – and we’ll discuss at length the liqueur itself in our forthcoming review of the bottle – but today’s post is an example of the versatile nature of this fine liqueur.
As it contains both cranberry and blood orange, it seemed logical to make a fruit based cocktail that would amplify the natural sweetness that comes from the liqueur. In addition to Crane’s Liqueur, we used an equal measure of white rum as it has a neutral flavour that won’t mask the fruitiness of the Crane’s Liqueur, and a base sweetness missing from similar spirits such as vodka or gin which enhances the overall drink. The Chambord and cranberry juice make the natural red colouring of the Crane’s Liqueur even more vibrant – and inviting – and works wonders with the rest of the cocktail. This goes doubly so for the cranberry juice; after all, as we’re now entering the last couple of months of the year and you can’t seem to turn a corner without running into Christmas music or Santa’s grottos, you might as well go full bore and embrace the festivities, and this is the perfect drink to do so.
All in all, it’s a great drink that would work for many occasions and with the holiday period coming up this is a good punch that can easily be served on a larger scale to your friends and family.
