I made this drink last night to celebrate the end of a tiring Monday. In fact, I think it was around 10am yesterday morning that I had already decided that this cocktail was going to be the end to my day. It’s just that good.
Now, when you look at the recipe and see that it mixes fresh orange juice with cream you might think that it’s going to end up looking like someone sneezed in a glass which, in my previous life as a University student, does tend to happen when you mix cream with acidity. The amount of Bailey’s based drinks I attempted to create – emphasis on ‘attempted’ – is a good indication of the coagulation capabilities of the aforementioned combination. I’ll admit that they always tasted nice, but the texture… left a lot to be desired shall we say.
However, this cocktail has somehow managed to find that balance that stops one step short of splitting the mixture. Instead, what you get is a wonderful, light and creamy cocktail that tastes more like a dessert than a drink. Imagine an orange almond pie and you’re probably in the right vicinity.
The Dreamsicle is definitely up there as one of my favourites; the fact that I remembered it early on a Monday morning and made a note on my phone to make it when I got home is a testament to the cocktail. It’s uplifting and calming, one to drink at the end of a long day – preferably in a hot bath with enough bubbles to let you hide away from the world for half an hour, but i’ll let you customise the experience.
